Daniel Lacalle, PhD

Chief Economist

Daniel Lacalle (Madrid, 1967). PhD in Economics, professor of Global Economy and Finances,
he is also an investment fund manager. Daniel is Member of the Advisory Board at the Rafael del
Pino Foundation and the HAC Business School as well as President of the Mises Hispano
Institute. Furthermore, he is Commissioner of the Community of Madrid in London. Ranked in the
Top 20 of the world’s most influential economists in 2016 according to Richtopia.
Daniel Lacalle is a professor at IE Business School, Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (IEB) and the
UNED. He has also taught at the London School of Economics, Escuela AFI, and in the Masters
MEMFI at the UNED. PhD in Economics and Degree in Economics and Business Sciences, he
holds the title of Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA), Masters in Economic Research
(UCV) and postgraduate studies by IESE (Universidad de Navarra).
His career in portfolio and investment management started in Citadel in the United States and
continued in London (at Ecofin Limited and PIMCO) working in equities, fixed income, venture
capital and commodities. He has been voted for five consecutive years in the Top 3 of the best
managers of Excel Survey, the ranking of Thomson Reuters, on the categories of General
Strategy, Petroleum and Electrical. Before his career as manager, he worked as financial analyst
at ABN Amro (today RBS), and he had different responsibilities at Repsol and Enagas, where he
received the award for the best IPO (IR Awards 2002).
Daniel Lacalle is author of different bestsellers translated to English, Chinese and Portuguese,
which have sold more than 50,000 copies:
