Professor at North Dakota State University and CTO & Founder of Uniqarta, Inc.
Val Marinov has more than ten years of industrial experience and more than 25 years of academic experience in the area of manufacturing engineering. He is currently a full Professor at North Dakota State University. Val is also the CTO and Founder of a startup company, Uniqarta, Inc. (www.uniqarta.com). The company is developing and commercializing technologies for packaging of ultra-thin chips for flexible hybrid electronic devices. Uniqarta has been the recipient of several National Science Foundation and NextFlex Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Institute grants. The company has been recently named to “Best University Startups 2016” list along with 34 other U.S. startup companies.
For 12 years Val had been associated with the NDSU Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE), Fargo, ND, until it closed doors in 2014. At CNSE he was leading one of the most successful research teams. Under his leadership and based on his inventions, his research team was the first in the world to demonstrate in 2011 the use of lasers for contactless packaging of functional microelectronic devices.
Val has (co)authored over sixty publications in broad and diversified fields, most recently in the areas of ultra-thin chip assembly for flexible hybrid electronics and functionalized nanomaterials. He has a B.Sc. in Manufacturing Engineering from the Technical University in Ruse, Bulgaria and a Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering from the Technical University of Sofia, Bulgaria.
